Broadcast – Have You No Decency
Watching the recent Republican debate, I was reminded of the 1954 hearings when Senator Joseph Mc Carthy smeared the reputation of a young attorney for alleged ties to a Communist organization. It was there this famous question was asked, “Have you no sense of decency, sir?”
The world is now facing the greatest refugee crisis since World War II. More than eleven million Syrians are dead, displaced or refugees. More than 625,000 people are applying for asylum in Europe. The U.S. and other western nations are being asked to help. Yet at no time did any of the GOP Presidential contenders bring up how to care for these people. No one offered any solution. The hard truth is it’s because this issue doesn’t “poll well” among Republican voters, so no one cares. If given the chance to address the candidates, I would repeat the question asked of McCarthy, “Have you no sense of decency?”
