Portman

Broadcast – Portman

Senator Rob Portman is a gracious man who helped me a lot in my career. In this town, just hinting that he isn’t the perfect leader is like criticizing the Castro brothers in Cuba.

But here’s something you didn’t know: Portman exemplifies the quote “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” When the U.S. invaded Iraq and thousands of American soldiers and Iraqi civilians were killed, Portman supported it. When the Bush administration used torture, he looked the other way. And as the National Security Agency spied on millions of Americans, he kept silent.

Recently, Portman joined 46 Senators to write a letter to Iran opposing a nuclear agreement. It was a cheap political move that undermined the President’s authority to negotiate with a foreign government. Portman may be a team player in the Republican party, but we need leaders willing to stand up for what’s right.
