Tony Blair

Broadcast – Tony Blair

Remember Emily Litella, the elderly commentator on Saturday Night Live in the 70’s? She delivered passionate editorials like, “What is all this fuss I hear about the deaf penalty? It’s terrible! Deaf people have enough problems as it is!” The news anchor would then interrupt her to explain, “That’s death penalty, not deaf penalty.” To which she’d reply, “Never mind.”

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair sounded like Emily recently. He apologized for his mistake in helping support and launch the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Mistake? A mistake is leaving your gym bag home when you go to work out or forgetting your anniversary. 4,500 American and British deaths, hundreds of thousands Iraqi civilians killed and the creation of Isis is more than a mistake. Don’t we deserve a little remorse from this guy, along with Bush, Cheney and the others who duped us into this war? But their only response to the destruction they caused is “Never mind.” I’m Phil Heimlich.
